Happy World Turtle Day Sand Sculpture!

In support of World Turtle Day, people are creating turtle sand sculptures around the globe.  As I was nowhere near sand today (other than what I saw in an aquatic shop!) I still wanted to show my commitment to these fantastic creatures - so here is my sand crafted turtle that I created last Christmas.  We were on a trip up near Bundaberg and there we got to see mothers coming to shore to lay their eggs - an awe inspiring and life engaging moment.

I just love everything to do with the sea.

Watch where you walk - there be spiderwebs!

Spiderweb in the path
Do you see it?  No, I nearly didn't either!  Whilst on my way to do some bushcare volunteering at Mt Gravatt I almost walked right into it.  As I was running a few minutes late I did a very quick scribble of it in my sketchbook.  As I wasn't too happy with that scribble, I couldn't wait to digitally draw it back at home.

Thinking in depth about how the spiderweb easily 'merged' into the background, is quite a challenge to draw which is why my scribbling just 'merged' into precisely a scribble.  But I think that helped to create this image where the spiderweb, although at the forefront of the picture, 'merges' into the background as it did in nature proving how easily they can not be seen.

Dense Forest Illustration

This is inspired by our Easter weekend getaway to the Hinterlands in New South Wales.  We had some fantastic walks within some beautiful dense rainforest bushland.  Trees were everywhere displaying many natural spectrums of greens and browns, a fantastic relief from the boring greys of cities!
